Meet Ventula: Client Director, Rachel Mayne

Every month, we sit down with one of our talented consultants as part of our Meet Ventula series of blogs. This week it was the turn of Client Director, Rachel Mayne, in the spotlight to talk about an exciting new promotion and how Ventula’s approach to delivery helps them to stand out from the crowd.

Hi Rachel! Thanks for taking the time to speak with us. Can you tell us a little about your role?

Well, it’s all changed very recently! I am now Client Director which means my role will be focused on winning new business and expanding existing accounts across both permanent and contract recruiting as our team grows. Previously, I was head of the contracts team – we have over 200 contractors out at the moment and I was responsible for managing those contract accounts and the delivery into them via our consultants.

How long have you been working at Ventula and how did you get here?

Our founders Andy and Tom actually hired me when I was 21 at another recruitment firm. I was the first graduate hire they made back in 2009. I was there for five years before moving to another agency that was better aligned to my vertical market, Business Change. I spent two years at that firm until Andy and Tom asked me to join them at Ventula in February 2017, so my career has sort of gone full circle!

What skills are clients looking for in candidates?

If it’s a permanent hire (across all skill sets) I guess the key thing is niche technical skills paired with soft skills. There are a lot of techie roles where people have all the hard skills but don’t necessarily have the business-facing expertise. It’s about marrying the two for permanent hires because they represent a long-term investment for the business. When it comes to contractors, people want a safe pair of hands, there is a lot more focus on delivery and experience.

And what are candidates looking for from a project or employer?

For a lot of technical roles, like developers, candidates expect at least one day working from home. Some jobs are pretty much completely remote now. Flexibility comes up a lot from candidates. Permanent candidates are looking for career progression, promotion opportunities, and a positive team environment.

Why should a client choose to work with Ventula?

We are very delivery focused which our clients like, and I believe we offer excellent candidate management coupled with a very strong candidate experience. It’s rare that one of our candidates doesn’t accept a role when offered. We often have positive feedback from our clients and candidates on our management of the end-to-end process.

What roles are in demand right now?

From a Business Change perspective, which is what I primarily focus on, there is always a demand for Project Managers who can deliver cultural change as well as technical change. Agile is also increasingly popular for our clients, so Agile Coaches and Scrum Masters are highly sought after, as are Business Analysts.

What do you enjoy about being part of the Ventula team?

The team here are so supportive of each other, it’s not a cutthroat environment like you might experience in other agencies but it’s also very high performing. There are people here with years and years of experience, so there is always an opportunity to learn something new. The clients are also great, we work with really incredible organisations and people!
