Ventula FC - Match Report - 21st October 2019

The story behind this week’s fixture for Ventula FC starts in the hours following our disappointing loss to GTFC.

Sat in the office we realised that although we were now playing attractive, attacking football we didn’t have many positive results to
show for it -- clearly something still had to change.

After a cursory google search, our number 9 - Christian Kenny - stumbled upon an absolute
treasure chest of 5 a-side tactics on http://www.5-a-side.com/tips/11-best-tips-tactics-to-win-at-5-a-side-football/

As we absorbed this wealth of information our future glory played out before our eyes; we pictured the trophies, the sponsorship deals, the European away days and the open-bus parade down Borough High Street….

On Monday morning as we strolled down the tunnel towards the pitch we could see the sheet of drizzle falling and pooling on the playing surface. The glint in our eyes matched the glint of water on the match ball… these were exactly the kind of playing conditions Ventula FC would thrive in.

The match was physical from the off with tackles flying in from both teams and players sliding along the slippery surface. Ventula went down 1-0 after a fluky shot found the back of the net but we kept our shape and eventually scored two sublime goals to take it to 2-1 going into halftime. Tempers on both sides were rising.

The second half saw physicality come to the fore again. With Ventula 3-2 up, and 3 minutes of the game left, a tremendous tackle from James Leyden was subject to a VAR (Very Awful Reffereeing) controversy and he was sent to the sinbin.

With the clock ticking down and only 4 players on the pitch Ventula defended heroically but ultimately let in an equaliser with 1-minute left. It was truly a game for the ages -- a frustrating result but a valiant performance.

Special mention must go to:

•Andrew Shaw who has now cemented his place in goal with a number of majestic saves
•The Author – not to break the 4th wall… but I got a hattrick!

FINAL SCORE:
Ventula FC – 3
GLA FC – 3
