We sat down with one of our newest Ventula team members, Sophia Pervez, to find out more about her journey from business graduate to CRM recruiter. What is really like to embark on a new career path?
Hi Sophia, thanks for speaking to us today. We hope you’re settling in well at Ventula! Can you tell us a little more about your background?
I graduated with a degree in business management from Exeter University in June 2019 and began my role here in November 2019. I feel like Ventula offered me a great opportunity to transition from uni into a professional role, and I’m really enjoying it so far. I started out recruiting contract and general tech positions before moving to specialise in the CRM market.
What is CRM?
CRM stands for customer relationship management and refers to the technology and practices used to oversee customer interactions and lifecycles with the ultimate aim of improving customer service. CRM professionals can help to support customer retention, drive sales growth, and improve customer analytics.
What types of roles do you recruit for?
I recruit for contract and perm CRM professionals at all levels. From CRM executives to CRM directors and marketing directors.
How did you decide on a career in recruitment?:
I’m naturally a very determined person, which I think is a good match for recruitment! I also like that you’re very much in control of your own success and earnings potential in this industry. From a personal perspective, I was attracted to a career with lots of interaction; I really enjoy speaking to people and learning more about them.
What attracted you to Ventula?
Ventula stood out for me at every stage of the recruitment process. Not only was everyone incredibly friendly, they knew the industry inside and out. They also took the time to explain the industry and role in a way that other companies did not. For me, this role felt like an investment in my long-term progression, and I want to grow my experience and expertise as Ventula grows. The team here is like a mini family – everyone gets on so well!
Tell us more about the interview and assessment process...
I attended a one day interview and assessment. The interview with the directors was an informal chat and opportunity to get to know each other. They were interested in what I was looking for from my career and why I was choosing recruitment. I also got to spend time with the team which was a nice way to connect with people from the start. Then there was a small email assessment, allowing me to demonstrate my experience and communication skills.
How was the onboarding process?
Tiring but really fun! I started to get to know other new hires and learn more about the company which was exciting. I loved being able to throw myself into the role and learn new skills. I also enjoyed socialising with the team outside of work.
Can you tell us a little more about your day to day role?
I am focused on the business development side of Ventula. This means I am speaking to new clients and candidates as well as maintaining existing relationships. I try to strike a balance between developing new opportunities and ensuring our existing clients always receive great service.
What does the future hold for you at Ventula?
I definitely want to stay in business development and progress further. I’d also like to maintain my focus on tech and CRM. Essentially, I want to carry on developing good relationships with clients and candidates, continuing to grow my career as Ventula grows as a business
What do you enjoy doing outside of recruitment?
I live in London and enjoy spending time with friends in the city. Shopping, going out for drinks, eating out, socializing – I’m a naturally social person!
Thank you for sharing your experience with us, Sophia. We are sure you are going to achieve big things with Ventula!
